In five years, how do you see your current occupation changing? Will it still be around in five, ten, or twenty years? And what will happen to the company and field in which you work?
Honestly, we do not know anong maaring mangyari sa future. We did not even anticipate itong pandemic na magtatagal ng more than 2 years!
So paano natin ma future-proof and ating mga career?
1. Identify an Institution That Can Serve as Your "Academy"
Continuous development is the key. Never stop learning new skills.
Kailangan mo ito especially if you want to be a consultant one day.
2. Keep Your Tech Skills Sharp
Push yourself to keep your technical skill updated, enhance it and learn new ways to improve it.
3. Gain Knowledge and Abilities You Can Use Anywhere
Your skills are your skills nobody can take that away from you. So develop skills na hinahanap palagi ng mga employers like leadership, communication, innovation, and stress management.
4. To think globally
Look beyond the local businesses and territories. Maraming opportunities din sa abroad that you could strategize on getting good experience and earning more habang bata ka pa.
5. Create a "Success Journal" and use it consistently.
Keep a record of what you do well, good results, accomplishments, and successful projects. We need this to have a good track record and a positive reputation!
6. Establish and Maintain a Strong Professional Network in Your Field
Most of my opportunities abroad came from my professional connections, yung mga nakakakilala sa akin at nagkaroon kami ng pagkakataon na makatrabaho. Nurture this kind of network, this has a huge value.
7. Explore Your Surroundings
Follow profession, industry, and economic changes. Stay informed and aspire to work for positive, long-term industries and employers.
8. Keep Your Professional Options Open
Be proactive in responding to a lack of career advancement chances, even if it means changing jobs or careers.
9. The Art of Keeping Your Cool: Building Resilience
Practice handling disappointment and turbulence. No matter how much you plan, you'll face setbacks. But you will realize that quitting is not always the answer, but being resilient ;-)
From being an average Engineer, I applied these steps to become a consultant to achieve the freedom I want in my life and career.
It's risky, but there are a lot of opportunities.
